Non-spicy options in a Chengdu hotpot? Traveling with kids

We love the idea of hotpot but the kids can't do the mala heat. Is the "yuanyang" split pot a real thing we can ask for?

Yes! Ask for 鸳鸯锅 (yuān-yāng guō) — a divided pot with a mild bone/tomato broth on one side. Point at the menu photo and you're set. Most places expect this request.
