Getting Around
Thailand offers every kind of transport, from Bangkok’s sleek Skytrain to overnight sleeper trains, island ferries and cheap domestic flights. Mixing modes is part of the adventure.

Around Bangkok
Skip the notorious traffic with the BTS Skytrain and MRT metro, both clean, cheap and English-signed. River express boats are a scenic way to reach the old town and temples.
Between cities
Cheap domestic flights link Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket in about 1–1.5 hours. Trains (including atmospheric overnight sleepers) and comfortable long-distance buses cover the rest.
Tuk-tuks & taxis
Metered taxis are cheap — insist on the meter, or use Grab for fixed prices. Tuk-tuks are fun for short hops but agree the fare before you climb in.
To the islands
Ferries and speedboats connect the mainland to islands like Phi Phi, Samui and Phuket’s neighbors. Book combined bus-and-boat tickets for the smoothest transfers.
